The diversity of tunings employed by the Quartet, which
doubles the normal range of the guitar from three and a half octaves to almost
seven octaves, allows them to play a variety of masterpieces at original pitch.
The special sound achieved by the group, which was praised by The Washington
Post, as "big, warm, round and clear," resembles that of a small
string orchestra. They have been hailed for their exquisite sensibility,
refinement and artistic discipline.
In performance, the Quartet employs a variety of unusual
tunings, which virtually double the normal range of the guitar from
three-and-a-half to almost seven octaves. This expansion allows them to play a
variety of masterpieces at original pitch, while providing larger works with a
full sound resembling that of a string orchestra.
Combining the individual talents of three Argentineans and
one North American, the Quartet has been touring the Americas since 1989, both
in recital and with orchestra. The Santa Fe Guitar Quartet has participated at
many guitar and chamber music concert festivals. They have been heard on
National Public Radio's Performance Today and have performed in many of the
finest concert venues in North America including Carnegie Hall.
